Fall/ Winter 2016-2017 Fashion Trends

The fashion weeks are over and this means we have the complete list of the fall/ winter 2016-2017 fashion trends fresh off the runway that spark such vivid imaginations and dreams. We saw many a lovely design and commented on quite a few trends as well that have either taken hold for the upcoming seasons alone or seem to have seeped in from 2015, refusing to let go just yet.

Though while the 1970s still held some place on the catwalk, it was not nearly as strong as it was for the spring and summer fashions, while vastly diminished if compared to last year’s top designs. We saw daintier looks as well as some crazier ones, but overall it was a whole month and half of creations true to their houses and eponymous designers. The top fashion trends of fall/ winter 2016-2017 ready-to-wear collections include:

#1: Masculine vs Feminine Tug of War

Possibly the biggest trend of the fall and winter seasons of 2016 is the use of masculine to accentuate certain aspects of femininity. The ladies that walk out onto the runway often have a gender ambiguity about them that really keeps up with the spring and summer trends of this year, making lack of specific sexuality, or instead the appearance of multiple genders in one, the official norm. It is a nod towards the trend of the West, particularly North America and Europe, to embrace individuals on all points of the spectrum, without fail.
DKNY appears with some masculine designs, including the chunky boots and sweater over pinstripe suit combination, while Ralph Lauren comes in with a gorgeous plaid check blazer and brown comfort fit pants paired with a shirt and tie ensemble.

#2: Lots and Lots of Layers

We always manage to look good for the fall and winter, but lately there was a problem with keeping warm. Since we want to wear transparent looks, it only makes sense to wear something underneath as well. Then again, we were thinking of something similar in cut to skirts and dresses and not wearing pants and tops and a few other pieces underneath the main piece.
At DKNY, the layers are full and sometimes even absurd, throwing a transparent lace dress over a bandeau top and masculine pants, a lace turtleneck appearing under the velvet brocade at the chest. It looks as if three different looks have been thrown together, worn one on top of the others, and presented as the latest trend. Then again, some designers can make this look pretty good as well, such as the Moschino open-shoulder ‘80s glamour effect over a transparent tank top.

#3: ‘80s Glamour

Whether we are thinking rock and roll, leather, fishnets, or the gritty graffiti of the times, it is clear that we have transitioned away from the 1970s and come well into the ‘80s here as we enjoy some of the loveliest retro looks seen yet. It is all about the loud trends for fall 2016 here, with contrasting prints and lots of stellar content.
The combination of white tiger print crop sweater with bright turtlenecks and graffiti miniskirts is intriguing enough without adding fishnets, socks and leopard print shoes to the mix as seen at Giamba. Animal tones are a common sight actually, seen at Just Cavalli, while those fishnet stockings keep on appearing.
It is also prudent to note the use of zippers on the skirts, giving it a more stylish edge. Leather skirts, big accents to the tops, transparent tanks, and tulle layered skirts only make things look more fun, with designers like Lorenzo Serafini and Moschino lighting up the runways with ease.

#4: Plenty of Pleating

One of the top fall 2016 trends and spanning further back than that is the look of pleats. While there were more during the spring and summer seasonal presentations, we saw a good amount appear on the fall and winter runways as well, seeing a good pattern there. It was Alessandro Michele who made the pleated midi skirt and lacy underwear combination so enticing and that is where we have continued onwards from. Pleats exist on just about every piece of fashion now and the frills are only one aspect of the pleats, so huge on the Milan runway.
We see them on Gucci quite a bit, with multiple layers of colorful goodness, Arthur Arbesser, Fendi, Salvatore Ferragamo and many more adding to the pleated fashion collections. We see side pleats appear at Jil Sander, barely there pleats spotted at 21 N, and dual tone skirts at Tod’s. Yes, it is a gorgeous look and entirely worth sifting through all the gorgeous looks this year.

#5: Lots of Velvet

It was so very beautiful to see so much velvet on the runways, with so many intriguing designs on it, from prints to embroideries to the simple cuts of it all. It is an expressive texture, soft to the touch and gorgeous to view, with a slight shimmer to it and the ability to keep you much warmer against the elements. Social events are made all the richer with velvet creations showing of your body.
The use of fall 2016 colors on the velvet is even better, while pairing that with pantsuits makes for a 1980s comeback while still showing off a modern tinge, as is seen with Phillip Lim’s designs. Crazy fuchsia designs at Prabal Gurung also give us some sporty pieces that look well when matched with same color and texture boots.
It is a combination of velvet and lace that we see at DKNY however, with a whole lot of layers, as is the main trend this year. There is so much velvet seen throughout that we can easily dub this the material of the year!

#6: Simply Suede

The suede is very much a trend left from 2015, where the 1970s was the era of choice and the designs were retro and blasts from the pasts. We loved the material use then and we love it now, though we are happy that it has given way to velvet and allowed velour to rule as well. One of the most practical and wearable fall/ winter 2016-2017 fashion trends, suede has that special shine to it that only suede can have, the softness of the pieces all the more reason to invest in this winter-perfect material.
At Tory Burch, we see suede in denim blue colors, falling to mid-calf at midi heights and showing off a demure sense of calm that rather inspires faith in the lady’s intelligence as well. Ralph Lauren’s suede pantsuits in the totally masculine effects are beyond darling and definitely covetable. Narciso Rodriguez brings in lovely suede coats worn over satin slips, and Derek Lam does a dual colored midi skirts in pencil dimensions to keep up the cowgirl meets 21st century look alive.

#7: Loads of Leather

We have always loved the leather jackets, the leather tops and skirts and everything in between. How can one get enough of leather anyway? It is very much a part of our fall needs and so when The Row gives us super long leather coats in brown or we see cropped leather tops under velvet suits at Phillip Lim. Leather skirts in black, falling to mid-calf, appear under oversized sweaters at Rag & Bone, the skin and its synthetic substitutes appearing time and again in different cuts and creations.
Leather was found on trousers, skirts, dresses and more, even on hoodies for a cleaner effect. Leather was spotted in synthetic, shinier forms on Mulberry, with high necks, ruffled front, long sleeves, and above the knee hems.
It was all about the little black dress with the mid-thigh length of the skirts at Ashley Williams, while the effects at Mary Katrantzou were a little more on the psychedelic side, with images of blue butterflies, red stars and a whole lot more appearing on those skirts. The beauty of the leather pants was clear at David Koma, particularly when combined with a single-shoulder open-décolletage long-sleeve sweater tucked in.

#8: Tufts of Colorful Fur

Whether we see bits of fur here and there or lots of it throughout the collections, there is no denying that the faux versions are taking over the fall 2016 fashion trends, looking rather creative with the floral designs at Michael Kors for example, or the Jason Wu cream and black cell designs on the warm material. Tufts of fur appear on the hood of the Tory Burch ensembles. Furry lapels are a huge thing throughout, such as those seen at Calvin Klein, while furry bib-like rounded collars made for an interesting addition to the Roksanda collection.
Honestly, the best part about the fur was the colorful nature of it all, from the Shrimp effect to candy shades, both on real and faux, and extra popular in Milan. It was a mashup of colors seen at Marco de Vincenzo, large collars and thick sleeves to contend with at Fendi, bright Sesame Street blues true to the Iceberg name and with coat matching dress in crazy colors at Versace. And then of course there is the whole Mongolian look with full fur effects as per DSquared2, complete with a very high neck to prevent the cold from ever seeping in.

#9: Inclusion of Mesh

While lace is a common look that we have been seeing for a while, it does not compare to the notoriety of mesh that brings in the punk Goth aspects that have made the 2016 fashion trends so very different from past seasons. We see it appear as turtlenecks, for example, such as that seen at Opening Ceremony, or as part of the skirts on dresses, either in panel or entirely in the design, as per Mulberry’s catwalk presentation.

#10: Embroidery and Lace

While more common in 2015 and on the spring runways, both embroidery and lace are still a vital part of the fall/ winter 2016-2017 fashion trends, making the appearance of turtleneck lace dresses under velvet layers and over masculine pants rather refreshing. At Mulberry, the gorgeous lace dresses also come with leather jackets worn over and shiny studs adding to the swishing effects of the skirts, making the pieces all the lovelier to own.
The richness of the embroideries can also easily be found throughout, appearing all the more on the Milan catwalk, the intricacies often deserving of high praise. Roberto Cavalli ensured that we get incredible embroideries on the plunge-neck tops and extra-long coats, not sparing talents when it came to the accessories as well. Add on the beauty of embroidery over transparent gowns, such as that seen at Alberta Ferretti and one has to admit that this is one of the best fashion trends meant for fall 2016.

#11: Use of Metallic Shine

The metallic looks were all the rage on the catwalks as we noticed skirts, dresses, tops, pants and everything in between appearing in silver, gold, copper and more. It was a look we easily fell in love with, the variety of shiny metallic details all the more attractive when appearing as art on transparent gowns such as that seen on the Alexander McQueen runway, or as rather lovely prints on knee-length coats appearing at Peter Pilotto.
Decorative tinsel made many of the pieces seen on the runways look especially shiny with their metallic sheen, from golden coats at Dolce & Gabbana to silver skirts at Fendi, Adam Selman and Marco de Vincenzo giving us even more in that style. The daytime shimmer from the metallic shine was to be commended, bringing some spice to the wardrobes, including with those Felder Felder disco trousers. House of Holland’s metallic sheen was definitely to be commended though as bolts of cobalt appeared on the runways.

#12: Around the Knees Midi Hems

Nearly every designer went for the modest but sexy midi hems this year, generally stopping just over the knees but sometimes just under as well. These hemlines serve to elongate the figure, flattering most when just above, so that both legs and chest region effectively look longer, giving the lady wearing the look the illusion of being taller.
Some of the looks were much warmer in material, such as that seen at Herve Leger, while Prabal Gurung’s drop a few inches below the knees in the split panel dress woven together with lace. The skirts often appear below the knees in any case, adding to the professional appeal of each ensemble, while detracting from the sexiness of legs to focus attentions elsewhere.
High skirts at Altuzarra in fuchsia coloring only add to the beauty of the stylish trend. Whether we are talking Calvin Klein or Michael Kors, the longer skirts are certainly lovely, especially when they appear with a small show of skin.

#13: Intriguing Pantsuits

Since the masculine meets feminine and vice versa today, we can easily see quite a few pantsuits among the fall 2016 fashion trends that automatically have us wanting to update our work wardrobe, but with something more hip and cool. That might include pinstripe pantsuits tucked into chunky boots and with oversized sweaters topping them for good effect, as per DKNY, or looking especially amazing with plaid checks on an especially manly Ralph Lauren ensemble. Going back to DKNY though, have you seen the open-midriff buck-side pinstripe pantsuits that are very masculine?
Pantsuits are a common sight it appears and so is crazy as we notice bright glitter and amethyst hues come together at Ashish. The power suits look great for this season and have all been given an interesting upgrade, from stripes down the body in coral red, against a black background to Taser prints on the whole of the suits, crazy star spangled designs all over, including on a matching hat and in a more modernistic approach of not wearing anything under the blazer but a sequined bra.
Some of the power suits, such as that seen on the Xiao Li runway looked pretty awesome with the wide pants and artistic accessories, the shoes underneath speaking of as much stylish comfort as the rest of the clothing on display.

#14: Pinstripe Suits

If you love the more intriguing pantsuits, you are going to go gaga over the pinstripes that anyone can wear for it looks amazing no matter the body underneath. And it does not need to be a pantsuit either, appearing with a dress under the blazer at Trussardi.
Some have the sexier plunging neckline effects, such as at Max Mara and Calvin Klein, while Tibi likes to keep it sportier in its professionalism, and things can never get boring with Sies Marjan fashions, particularly when we see the tall and slim looks it brings to the table. Pinstripes are the cool new looks and the suits with the pinstripes look amazingly good, particularly when the pants are as wide legged as these ladies show them off.

#15: Cropped Pants and Culottes

There are different lengths to the cropped pants, but generally they fall below the knees and above the ankles and are not always flared at the ends like the rather lovable culottes that we thought would be leaving the fashion scene a few seasons back. On the contrary, those intriguing pants have stayed on and brought with them more cropped feels, but they are still the ones reigning supreme.
We see some velour culottes at Lacoste and some lovely checked cutoffs reaching mid-calf at Michael Kors. Cropped pants in grey pinstripes look pretty awesome at Monse actually, complete with fur stoles that come with a fringed bit of detailing.

#16: Sleepwear as Outerwear

Remember the intriguing new trend of slips and pajamas worn as outerwear from the spring and summer seasons? Yes, we get to see a whole lot more of it, though a bit more refined at times, on the fall and winter runways as well, with some like those from Narciso Rodriguez appearing with asymmetrical skirts. DKNY comes in with some red lacing, thin strapping and long skirts, the neckline plunging so low and wide, we wonder if it will be showing off the chest underneath fully if we try to wear it without the translucent turtleneck underneath.

#17: Pussy-Bow Tops and Dresses

Pussy-bow necklines make probably the most sophisticated fashion trend for fall 2016, appearing on tops and flowing dresses and making our hearts melt. They give kind of a schoolgirl and Victorian allure to the designs, while also bearing a high dose of modesty. Pussy-bow blouses and dresses were spotted in abundance at Roksanda, Philosophy, Peter Pilotto, Temperley London, Osman, Marc Jacobs and others.

#18: Versatile Denim

We can hardly do without denim in any season, since it has managed to become the go-to fabric for building effortlessly chic looks without trying too hard. We love sporting short denim shorts and rompers in summer, and our wardrobe features at least two pairs of jeans and a jean jacket for the chilly autumn days. Many a designer capitalized on the denim trend this fall, among them Miu Miu playing with youthful patchwork used on the denim jackets, Ralph Lauren adding glam motifs to cowgirl bell-bottom jeans and Blumarine betting on the minimalist denim culottes with raw hems.

#19: Super Long Coats

We have seen coats in different materials, from colorful faux furs to leather and suede, but something we noticed quite a bit was the length of each of these pieces and how that appealed to us who live in colder climates. The Row, for example has some gorgeous brown leather coats. The coats appear in fuchsia at Public School’s display of designs, looking rather gorgeous as worn by models with a bit more meat on their bodies.
We also see military-style really long coats appear, such as the khaki at Topshop Unique, the red edged at Burberry, the wraparound styles with the furry edges as per Christopher Kane, and the truly English appeal of the Mulberry designs. The best, we have to say, can be found on the Roberto Cavalli looks, where the coats are embellished with rich embroidery.

#20: Shiny Studs and Sequins

Shiny looks are all the rage and we cannot get enough of them. There were sequins in 2015, more in the spring of 2016, and now as we head into fall they seem to be following us, this time in even brighter colors. The shine is impeccable and we are enjoying the mini dresses covered in it, showing off floral prints, the spaghetti strapped pieces appearing at Ashish with Gold Digger emblazoned across the chest (this would make a great Halloween costume, complete with the wig), and the stud-covered Burberry looks that we can barely get enough of.
Black sequins brought in the night sky at Simone Rocha, adding a classical touch to the already classic cuts, but it was Topshop Unique that really accentuated the whole sequins with artistic panting looks with calf-length slip dresses, bodies elongated in the process. Glittering effects also appear due to tinsel and paillettes, seen profusely on Roberto Cavalli, Dolce & Gabbana, Gucci, Versace, and more.

#21: Perfectly Plunging Necklines

The 2015 top trends of plunging necklines continue into 2016, right into the fall and winter fashions and we think they might keep on popping up for a few seasons yet since it has not fully caught on with the public. However, when you have plunging necklines paired with shirts or high-necked tops underneath with long sleeves and body contouring materials, it makes it all the more appealing since there is less skin exposed to the elements. In this case, Prabal Gurung is a great example with its dresses over Chinese collar shirts.
Plunging necks with nothing underneath are seen at Roberto Cavalli, the blouses heavily accented with rich embroideries as well for additional style. The necklines on pinstripe suits look pretty awesome as well, particularly as seen at Max Mara, Trussardi and Calvin Klein, the latter really bringing down the plunge to the top of the abdomen.
Sometimes the pieces were kept together with metal rings and details, as per the lovely shimmering black dress found on the Dion Lee runway. As for showing a whole lot of chest, we noticed some gorgeous looks with a huge amount of sequins and some really fluffy coats right on the Preen runway.

#22: Focusing on Asymmetrical Shoulders

We have seen everything from single shoulder dresses to open shoulder sweaters, the former appearing lovingly on Herve Leger, while the latter spotted at Rag & Bone. The focus on the shoulders has really sparked a love for playing with the décolletage as well, but that falls under a category of its own. Lowering the top to show off a little shoulder or playing with single shoulder designs gives the looks a flirtier, more feminine edge, made to counteract the often-masculine accents to the outfits on the catwalks.
Double straps over a single shoulder appeared at David Koma as well, and that look really brought sexy back, especially since it only added to the outline of the décolletage. The single-shoulder ‘80s look somehow has made it back in and the combination with loads of ruffles is quite intriguing to say the least, appearing on the likes of Isabel Marant, Saint Laurent, Lanvin and Moschino. Single-arm tops appear aplenty on so many different shows that it becomes rather impossible to keep track.

#23: Showing off the Shoulders

During the spring and summer collection presentations, the top trend was the open shoulders indeed. Now, it appears that we have moved into the fall and still manage to find a good amount of fully bare shoulders, presenting define décolletage. At Opening Ceremony, we can certainly enjoy the look with outfits that include comfortable sweaters tucked into high-waist pants falling to the ankles and looking pretty stylish if you ask us.
Open shoulders are seen with strapless pieces as well, really bringing the focus up to the indentations and strength of the neck, Victoria Beckham playing up on the creations. David Koma loved to show off this part of the body as well, opening up the shoulders and sending over two thin strips on one side, tucking in the body hugging material for a more defined silhouette.

#24: Shearling Coats

Although lace and transparency are perfect for channeling a high dose of elegance and femininity, you definitely want to feel warm and comfy during those cold days and it’s here that chunky shearling coats come in handy. Short or long, shaggy or more elegant, shearling coats appeared at almost each runway show from New York to Longon, Milan and Paris, forming one of the most wearable and covetable fall/ winter 2016-2017 fashion trends. You can check out the collections of Tory Burch, Altuzarra, Maison Margiela, Balenciaga, Cedric Charlier, Carven and others to find some to-die-for shearling coats for winter.

#25: Slits up the Thighs

Remember the rather high slits seen a few seasons back that really made us drool from the sexiness of it all? They make one of the top fall 2016 fashion trends, looking just as alluring in the manner by which they appear before us. Some slits can be seen on skirts worn under gorgeous coats at Calvin Klein, while the schoolgirl jumpers comes with some form of a slit on the below-the-knee midi hem at Jason Wu.
If you want some extremely delectable velvety goodness in this style, adding in slits to the side and off-the-shoulder looks on one side, the goddess appearance can be found flouncing down the catwalk at Monse.

#26: Glossy Patent Leather & Vinyl

While leather is huge for fall, when you add glossy, high-shine finishes to it, you get a sexier, more fetish-chic version of the trend that’s definitely not for those shying away from extra attention. Wet-effect patent leather and vinyl comes in both vibrant shades and more relaxed tones, like black, brown or pastel colors, appearing in the collections of Lacoste, Kenzo, Nina Ricci, Valentino, Iceberg, Lanvin and others.

#27: Queues of Quilts on Warm Puffer Jackets

One of the biggest fall 2016 fashion trends is the use of quilts on the clothing, namely on warm and cozy puffer jackets. It is an old-timer stitch that looks warm and definitely has a tendency to keep warm as well, in whatever it appears on. The diamond stitching is back though not as strongly as we had hoped, and we can easily see the look appearing on Chanel coats and dresses, bombers at Haider Ackermann, and right throughout Sacai, Louis Vuitton, Balenciaga, and Stella McCartney enjoying nurturing a nearly dead fashion trend back to life.

#28: Matching Outerwear

It is interesting how there have been a lot of matching pieces seen of late, the spring season giving us the look in one form while the winter 2016-2017 fashion trends bringing it in a little differently, the matching pieces suddenly becoming wholly different separates in a single ensemble. This includes the chained gorgeous grey Herve Leger creations.
Matching looks continue at Mulberry with the military coats in a similar color and material as the center pressed ankle-crop trousers worn underneath, giving it a masculine but seamless effect. Versace’s mini dress came with a matching coat in colorful fur actually as well, only adding to this particular trend’s popularity among the masses. We can certainly expect to see coats and dresses sold together now, for it will only make a fashionable look appear even more in style for the fall months.

#29: High Waists and Ankle Crops

There is a good amount of pants cropped higher than the ankles, but there are just as many, if not more, cropped right there, neither above nor below. Add in the high waists that add length to the legs and you have a design that is rather perfect for the fall but might lead to frozen ankles come the chillier days. Opening Ceremony is only one of the many designers to take this particular combination to heart and present us with an array of choices to pick from. At Mulberry, there are a few trends that can be attached to the looks, from the ankle crops with high waists to the military garments that include matching coats and trousers.

#30: Tight Lacing Accents

While the looks were not quite on corsets most of the time, the laced up detailing was huge on the runway, appearing all over for purely decorative purposes. Often they gave off a dominatrix look, while sometimes they appeared on loose enough outfits not to infer the tightening of the waist, even subconsciously. It spiced things up quite neatly, appearing on everything from leather Proenza Schouler jackets to tops featuring the design along shoulders and the naval, left loose enough to just appear as if it is holding the whole thing in place.
At Fenty Puma it took on a gothic edge, while DKNY featured red lacing over black coats and slip dresses worn over turtleneck tops. Tome, however, came in with the corseted looks worn over a few layers, including a shiny turtleneck under a silky red shirt.

Top 10 Street Style Trends From Men’s Fashion Week S/S 2017

Menswear Spring/Summer 2017 Fashion Week brought us a lot of inspiration from the latest designer runway collections and the streets. The street style was vibrant as ever, with the stylish civilians and visitors of London, Paris and Milan pulling out lively hues, childhood-inspired pieces and a few traditional staples. We have scouted the streets for the latest men’s fashion trends and narrowed them down to ten most beloved looks and items.

1. Bandanas

Bandanas are perhaps the easiest street style trend to pull off, and they are boyishly brilliant. What makes this trend even better? All you will need is a humble bandana that could very well cost you a few dollars. An instant boost to the simplest of silhouettes, neckerchiefs are playful and can be an excellent opportunity to bring more colour to your wardrobe if you are a little hesitant to rock brighter shades. A great cherry red, cobalt blue or monochrome patterned bandana will do the trick, but ensure your knots are neat.

2. Seventies Revival

Street Style from Spring/Summer 2017 Fashion Week also saw a sartorial throwback to the evocative seventies. The most appealing element from the seventies trend that emerged from street style was the rich colour palette. Try harnessing a rusty brown or rich Bordeaux as the focal point of your outfits. Loose fitting button downs in gloomy tans or amber oranges are also great. Some attendees also saw the shows as an opportunity to bring out their suede and velvet clothing. The key to pulling off this trend is to find pieces that pay tribute to the seventies, but also complement your features and colouring. Oh, and refrain from donning bell-bottoms.

3. White Out

Head to toe white prevailed as a favoured street style trend that was certainly bold. While most gentlemen that harnessed this trend went for more elaborate oriental-inspired silhouettes, there are simpler ways to channel elements of this trend for your weekend wear. Team white jeans with a humble white t-shirt, but throw on a navy or emerald baseball cap for a more grounded look. Roll up your jeans for a relaxed adaptation of the trend. Throw on some dark sunglasses to bring a bit more dimension to the plainness of all white.

4. Childhood Memories

A more playful trend that emerged from the European streets during fashion week was the novel childhood references that were emblazoned on shirts, jackets and baseball caps alike. Gents saw this fashion week as an opportunity to play off youthful imagery. Astronauts, spacecrafts, zoo animals, surfboards, and the like were the fun style statements with references from our younger years. To incorporate this trend in your everyday wear, opt for boyish accessories for a simple boost to the simplest of casual pieces. Think baseball caps, over the ankle knitted socks and youthful prints.

5. Statement Bomber Jackets

Attendees thought outside of the box with the colour choices of their bomber jackets at Fashion Week. Yes, black and navy bombers featured prevalently in street style, but bolder, more vivid shades also played a major role in distinguishing attendees from other guests. Light-toned emeralds and bright pinks were unexpected and were attention-grabbing. For gentlemen wanting to keep things conservative, opt for versatile colours, but ensure that your fit is youthful, and your accompanying pieces are streamlined.

6. Pyjama Inspired Pieces

What’s not to love about a great pair of pyjamas? This trend is yawn inducing but in all the best ways. We can thank the attendees for showing us that there is a perfectly respectable way to reconcile sleepwear references with our everyday wear. Baby blue teamed with warm beige featured prominently as did striped and plaid pieces in pastel tones. Don’t think you can pull off this comfy trend? Try a loose-fitting chambray shirt in a lighter blue or a striped linen shirt for a  simple incorporation of the trend.

7. The Powder Blue Shirt

While some gents went for true light blues, others went for more lavender versions of powder blue button downs. Undoubtedly, there was a sea of classic silhouettes, but other powder blue shirt wearers also went for more modern adaptations. These came in the form of asymmetric shoulders, dimensional detailing and skinnier fits. For corporate wear, adapt powder blue shirts with ties in the same colour family; think navy and cobalt. Reds and burgundies are also great colour accompaniments. For casual wear, a great fitting powder blue shirt with streamline chinos is ideal. Team with loafers or white sneakers for a relaxed aesthetic.

8. Monochrome Prints

On the topic of childhood memories, the monochrome prints featured on the European streets of fashion week were a little reminder to our memories of ‘101 Dalmatians’. Bold, graphic and unusual, Fashion Week attendees weren’t afraid to make daring statements in the most humble and basic of all the colour combinations. If you aren’t as brave, incorporate black and white in more traditional patterns, like bold stripes or ginghams which will read more classic yet perpetually stylish.

9. Vermillion Red

Certainly one of the most attention-grabbing colour trends, vermillion red stood out as a sartorial favourite on the streets of Fashion Week. Be careful to cherry pick which red pieces you go for; this shade of red is very bright and can read conspicuously over the top if done wrong. Vivid red t-shirts can be a nice change to our beloved white t-shirts and red sweaters are a great accompaniment to dark denim. For corporate wear, channel the trend with red socks or a preppy striped tie featuring the shade for a subtle interpretation of the trend.

10. Light Wash Denim

Light blue was certainly a preferred colour of choice on the streets of Europe, with the powder blue trend sustained with the favoured denim for the Spring/Summer 2017 Fashion Week attendees. Light and bright were the denim jackets that featured heavily on the European streets. The light wash denim trend didn’t stop there, with some guests interpreting their light wash denim in edgier pieces, including light denim short sleeve mechanic coveralls and distressed jeans. The ultimate for casual wear, invest in some slightly baggy denim jackets for easy over the shoulder accompaniments to white t-shirts or striped sweaters.
