Valve 2015

Valve: We Plan On Selling 5000 Steam Machines by 2015

In a press conference held today by Valve product designer Greg Coomer, he stated that Valve has high hopes for the Linux-based console with total sales reaching five thousand by the end of 2014.
The Steam Machine is a new console-PC hybrid that hopes to bring the best of both worlds together. With the SteamOS Linux operating system, a unique controller that uses two trackpads and its capability to be modified, Valve has a product that will reach an audience never thought possible by most game companies. Coomer went into great detail about the lifetime potential of the console in a press conference at CES.
“We estimate that we will sell 5000 Steam Machines by the end of 2014,” announced Coomer, “These numbers are unprecedented in the game industry as we are attempting to reach out to an audience that has been ignored for years by everyone including Valve. There are hundreds of gamers out there who love Linux but hate using computers.”
“You have to understand that this product is probably not for you,” continued Coomer, “Most people who like gaming on a computer will continue to use a computer and people who like console gaming are probably not going to switch to something with only a fraction of the games available with a controller they will never get used to. So our sales estimate is very realistic, but we also know its going to be tough to get there.”
Coomer then went into an incredibly detailed explanation about how Valve plans to use those first-year numbers as a starting point to get their lifetime sales to reach 100,000 by the end of 2018. He says that Valve is working hard to convince developers to develop solely for Linux and has already convinced big names like the Fullbright Company to commit to this by 2016. Furthermore, he hopes that people will eventually stop asking him why Valve decided to make this console.
“Many people have come up to me and asked why make such an incredibly niche product,” said Coomer, “I wish I had a straightforward answer for them, but the truth is, it’s very complicated to explain why we made this in the first place. When we have our weekly staff meetings, we spend about half of the time trying to figure out how we got this far without any objections whatsoever. However, we always conclude that the Steam Machine is a great idea that has no reason for it to be great.”
Valve also plans on becoming the number one console worldwide by 2018 by predicting that every other competitor will drop out of the console race.
