Like many, I tend to get dressed from the feet up. Pick the right shoes and everything else will follow.
Shoes are also the most accessible way into the new season trends.
Not many of us can afford the Burberry lace twin-sets or the Mulberry
short suits, but we might be able to invest in a pair of their vinyl
sandals or platform heels.
Get the must-have shoe of the season and, not only will you have all
your friends drooling with envy, but it will act like a sartorial shot
in the arm to the rest of your wardrobe – everything else will
inevitably follow.
Here’s the nine pairs of shoes – designer and high street – that
we’re currently lusting after for spring/summer 2014. Guaranteed to
change your wardrobe.
Lizzie platform sandal, Mulberry
Block heels are still big for the new season and these Mulberry platform
heels combine a 70s style with spring’s penchant for wild florals.
Zara’s platform sandals
If you don’t have £600 to burn, then Zara have a pair of 70s inspired
platforms of their own that will look great with that shirt dress you
have your eye on for spring/summer.
Burberry vinyl sandals
When Cara Delevingne walked down the Burberry catwalk last September in
that pastel pink lace skirt and pencil skirt, we must admit to being
momentarily distracted – by the gorgeous fuschia pink sandals on her
feet. These will be absolutely perfect for summer, accessorised with
that lovely golden tan you’re going to have, so get saving.
M&S Limited Edition summer heels
There’s a revolution underway at Britain’s former favourite high street
store. You may have noticed some great new pieces sneaking onto the shop
floor in recent months, under the stewardship of style director,
Belinda Earl, and she’s even had a positive effect in the footwear
department, an area where M&S has traditionally been quite poor.
These pink ankle strap shoes will look great with your pleated
midi-skirts and checked pencil skirts for spring.
Whistles gladiator flats
Whistles have taken the new season trend for pool sliders and made it
slightly more palatable by creating a gladiator hybrid. These metallic
sandals will go with pretty much everything for SS14 so are well worth a
splurge.
New Balance trainers
Finally, everyone needs a pair of trainers for spring/summer 2014. These
New Balance maroon sneakers are our favourite pick as they’ll go with
your 90s slip dresses, pencil skirts and your girlfriend jeans (high
waisted and slightly narrower than your boyfriend ones, just so you
know).
